Blue-kun> Do cheerleaders get voice here? I'd be honored to be one for a + next to my name! You know, it kinda shows I'm a DEDICATED IDLER (TM).
* @omgfloofy laaughs.
* omgfloofy sets mode: +v Blue-kun
@Varion> i will settle for no less than pink pompoms
* +Blue-kun starts practicing his dances
+Blue-kun> I'll come up with something, seriously!
@omgfloofy> Maybe I'll put you in the vop roster if you do good. ~.~/
+Blue-kun> pink pompoms~
@Varion> i wonder how many years it'll take wyrdy to do xanadu without us
@omgfloofy> hahaha
@omgfloofy> See- what Wyrdy doesn't have is... cheerleaders.
* @omgfloofy points to Blue.
@Varion> 55,000 strings demands cheerleaders
@omgfloofy> Yes.
+Blue-kun> lol :v
@omgfloofy> How's this for a mental image, Varion? Drill Team Dogi? :D
@omgfloofy> Complete with can-can.
@Varion> at 1 string a day that would take a grand total of 150 years to do FC!
@Varion> next time someone asks if the project is dead, i am going to post this figure.
+Blue-kun> lol
+Blue-kun> pink pompoms and can-can wouldn't work very well, I guess
@omgfloofy> hahahaha
@omgfloofy> Can-can and a frilly skirt work beautifully, though.

Website [Apr. 3rd, 2009|07:19 am]
Legend of Heroes VI Sora no Kiseki Translation

Today, in the tradition of Falcom updates on Friday, have opened the new Sora no Kiseki translation project website with a whole new layout and posting/commenting system. We should start having more details and information onto the site than we do on the LJ. Though we won't be neglecting it as a whole. It's just a better, more centralized area for us to keep things updated.

There are also better, more singular ways, of contacting us on there. We now have our own email address, checkable by everyone in the project, and have published the IRC channel we have opened.

I'm even considering on making a youtube account just to have all of our progress videos in one place, rather than on multiple accounts. But we'll see! :D

Feel free to check it out, however. If you see any bugs, please let me know. Thanks!

Yes. The website is closed.
This is because we're working on something new and shiny.

I'll make an announcement here when it's done.

Legend of Heroes VI Sora no Kiseki Translation

I know I should've been translating chapter 1. But I decided to do something different.

Have Angel Weismann's attacks from the last battle in SC. T____T

I translated them for something else entirely, but I don't want this lost, because of the omgresearch that came into getting these names. XDD;;;

I will provide the notes with each one, too.

(Also- feel free to do different things for the kanji translations, because... uh... I had to take a lot of liberties with some of them. :D;;

Calamitous Star - Shabbat
Shabbat is the Jewish name for the Sabbath- the seventh day of rest.

Godly Lance - Inanna
Inanna is the Sumerian/Babylonian goddess of love, fertility and war. She's also known as Ishtar.

Violent God - Angel
They're using Anhel for the pronouncation of Angel. This was also done in Drakengard. -I feel that there's a cultural backing to this, but I have no clue what it is. XD;;

Inhaled Vitality - Cybele
This was one of the difficult ones. It comes out as クブリエ in kana in the game. This is because Quebley is a word corruption that goes to Cybele. The Greek name for her is Kubure. She is a deification of the earth mother - or Gaia.

Binding Curse - Orbus
Orbus is one of the variant names that leads to Orpheus. His name derives from orphos, Rom. orb, Lat. orbus, luminibus orbus, similar with alphos (Alpheys from albus.) - Albus, if I recall correctly, is the same word that Alba is derived from.

Ruined World - Noaba
According to the Biblical Antiquities of the Bible as written by Philo, Adam originally had four children- three sons and one daughter: Cain and Abel, and Seth, who are all named in the Bible today... and Noaba, his daughter who is not. This is from the writings of the Hebrew Bible by Philo, which were never canonized.

Still unknown as of today:
Disorderly Rotation - Pameric - I keep finding 'Pameric' in references to blogs, but also to a Pakistani trading company.

アダンテ - I don't want to think of this as the musical term, adante. I want to find something else with it, because everything else has had some sort of religious/mythological significance.

And I'm still at a complete loss for アグオブ.

Also, many many thanks to ianthefira for a lot of this. :D;;

Regular update [Mar. 15th, 2008|08:35 pm]
Legend of Heroes VI Sora no Kiseki Translation

[mood |discontentdiscontent]
[music |school food punishment - sky step]

Okay, so there hasn't been any public updates in a while, but since I couldn't do what I wanted to, I'll go ahead and explain the current situation.

Translation is progressing, to use a word. Not fast. The game has like 35,000 strings and I can only do a couple hundred a week without getting overwhelmed by school and work. The prologue will be finished soon, making overall progress reach approx. 20%, and we do want to try and get out a teaser patch, but that will probably have to be delayed. Communication within the group has fallen to almost nothing for reasons beyond my knowledge, and nothing has been QC'd yet for some reason.

I wanted to put out another preview video earlier this week, but my computer is not fast enough to capture video, so I had to petition someone else to do it, but I've still not recieved it to upload to YouTube... Also, there are bugs that cause crashes with the english scripts, which still need to be looked at...

Among other things.

If there is a god, then the video will be up within the next 24 hours. Its nothing special, just the first scene where Scherazard explains various in-game world elements. There are a few screenshots on my journal page.

Besides that, there probably wont be any progress for the next week since I'm taking double shifts and I think everyone else is pretty close to a nervous breakdown, too. Stay tuned, I guess...

Hey, that last entry was a good idea... [Feb. 25th, 2008|10:15 pm]
Legend of Heroes VI Sora no Kiseki Translation

akake_kenshi's recent entry in this community was an extremely good idea. Since I'm quite new here, you all basically just have me on my word that I can translate Japanese, and have no real idea what kind of a translator I am, how good I am, etc. (unless you've been watching the PopoloCrois anime, anyway, but what are the chances of THAT?). ;) So in much the way he provided you with a translation example for your perusal, I figure it's only fair that I do the same.

Below, I've included a transcription of the full intro dialogue from Xanadu Next, as well as my rough translation of it. Please note that this translation represents only a single pass and a single proofreading, and has yet to be thoroughly edited in any way. In addition, I do not typically do direct translations, especially in a game like Xanadu Next where there's a lot of obviously stylized, flowery writing to work with -- even on a first pass, I try to actually take the time to produce some degree of natural English speech that would fit the situation, and this is exactly the approach I used below. It takes me a little longer than the average translator this way, but I think the end result is worth it. (:

Anyway, if anyone has any comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reply to this entry, or shout my name in the IRC channel to get my attention. I realize this is pretty rough, and there's definitely a lot of room for improvement, but hey, it's a start.

I'd have a lot more done by now, too, but I don't want to go any further until I'm certain what format to use for my translations. No sense spending hours translating text, only to find out that I'll have to totally reformat every line of it in order for it to be successfully patched back into the game, y'know?

Anyway, sorry, getting overly verbose now. (:

I'm doing this for practice (just taking the text as I read it and rewriting it directly) but I figured I'd post it here in case anyone wants to a) see how I translate or b) know what it means.
